Abstract: The first example of nitric oxide fixation by nontransition metal complexes was found: lead(ii) and zinc(ii) catecholato complexes readily react with nitric oxide to give the corresponding nitrosyl-containing mono-o-semiquinonates; the process of binding and transfer of NO can be easily monitored by EPR spectroscopy.

Keywords: redox-active ligands, catecholate, lead(II), zinc(II), NO binding, EPR.
