Abstract: 3-Acetylindole oxime reacts with acetylene (KOH/DMSO, 120 °C, 1 h, 20–25 atm) to unexpectedly give 4-methyl-1-vinyl-δ-carboline 2 in 40% yield along with minor product 1-vinyl-3-(1'-vinyl-2'-pyrrolyl)indole 3 (6%).
