Abstract: A phosphonium zwitterion formed by the reaction of triisopropylphosphine with ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate possesses a dual reactivity: while this ion reacts with 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene as a C-nucleophile, it reacts with 2,4,6-trinitrofluorobenzene as an N-nucleophile.
