Abstract: A new bis(styryl) dye of the pyridine series containing two 18-crown-6 ether fragments forms a pseudocyclic complex with the 1,3-diammoniumpropane dication, which undergoes [2 + 2]-photocycloaddition affording a single cyclobutane isomer.
