Synthesis of heterocyclic compounds in acid-catalysed reactions of citral epoxides

Abstract: The interaction of citral 6,7-epoxides with acetonitrile catalysed by sulfuric acid results in the formation of substituted 2-oxazolines without affecting the aldehyde group of citral, whereas the interaction of citral 2,3-epoxides with acetone and acetonitrile results in the formation of bicyclic and tricyclic compounds.
