Abstract: The clathrate nature of the compounds in the series [M(py)₄X₂]·2py (py = pyridine) is proved chemically by substituting non-bonded pyridine in [Cu(py)₄(NO₃)₂]·2py using benzene, tetrahydrofuran and chloroform.
