Abstract: The transformation of ‘Dimebon’, a γ-carboline derivative, has been accomplished by Penicillium simplicissimum and involves dehydrogenation of the γ-carboline ring, followed by N-demethylation, formation of a carbonyl group at C-4 and N-acetylation.
