Abstract: Generator columns based on Dowex 1X8 anion exchange resin and TEVA extraction chromatography resin with 0.005 M H2Ox + 0.065 M HCl eluent were compared. The behavior of 44Ti and 44Sc on the resins is explained by the corresponding fractions of anionic species of TiIV and ScIII in solutions of oxalic and hydrochloric acids mixtures. A laboratory generator based on TEVA with 0.005 M H2Ox + 0.065 M HCl eluent allowed to obtain over 96% 44Sc in 3 ml of eluent with a 44Ti breakthrough of no more than 5 × 10−5%.

Keywords: 44Ti, 44Sc, radionuclide generator, TEVA, Dowex 1X8, anion exchange resin, speciation in aqueous solutions.
