Abstract: Using infrared reflection–absorption spectroscopy, surface tensiometry and atomic force microscopy it is demonstrated that a network of fibrous aggregates of DNA–cationic polyelectrolyte complexes is formed at the water–air interface, the mechanism of the network generation depending on the initial surface pressure of the polyelectrolyte monolayer.
