Abstract: The Pd-catalyzed hydroxycarbonylation of vinyl acetate in the presence of formic acid into 2-acetoxypropionic acid is reported. The reaction proceeds chemo- and regioselectively under very mild conditions of 80 °C and 3–6 bar CO.

Keywords: hydroxycarbonylation, palladium, carbon monoxide, formic acid, vinyl acetate, acetoxypropionic acid.
