Synthesis of oxo dihydro pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinazoline and benzo[e]pyrrolo[1,2-b][1,2,4]triazepine carboxylic acids

Abstract: Two new heterocyclic carboxylic acids, namely, 2-carboxy derivatives of naturally occurring 2,3-dihydropyrrolo[1,2-a]quinazolin-5(1H)-one and potentially biologically active 2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[e]pyrrolo[1,2-b][1,2,4]triazepin-6(5H)-one, have been synthesized by the fusion of itaconic acid with anthranilic acid amide or hydrazide, respectively, in one or two steps in moderate to high yields.
