Abstract: Calculations of1 aerosol quantities based on classical theory of nucleation do not explain high level of aerosol concentration observed experimentally in jet behind supersonic aircraft. Mathematical model of generation of the simplest clusters taking part in production of gaseous sulfuric acid and primary nuclei of condensation in near-field plume behind supersonic aircraft under flight in low stratosphere is considered.
The plume flow field is treated using original computational fluid dynamics code based on parabolized Navier–Stokes equations with taking into account complicated processes of turbulent mixing, hydro-carbon-air combustion, water vapor and sulfur oxides dimerization.
