Three-dimentional problem of transonic flow about slender-bodies

Abstract: For investigation of transonic flows over hypersonic vehicles fast and design-oriented method is used, based on the transonic slender body theory. In this theory the original 3-dimensional problem is divided into two 2-dimensional boundary value problems, the near and far-field problems. The solution of the outer boundary value problem is obtained by a successive line overrelaxation procedure based on a Murman and Cole computational method. Inner boundary value problem – Laplace equation with Neumann boundary condition is solved by boundary element technique using hypothetical source panels on the cross section boundary. The complete solution, obtained by combination of the two component solution predicts the pressure distribution results with good acuracy, which is confirmed by the comparison between theory and experiment.
