Abstract:
By means of efficient numerical methods for direct integration of the Navier–Stokes equations the simulation of pulsating turbulent flows in a plane channel is performed. It is established that external harmonic pulsations do not affect the time-averaged integral characteristics of pulsating flows. The amplitude and phase of the stream-wise velocity component in turbulent flows are compared with those in laminar flows. The time-evolution of the energy fluctuations for low and high frequencies in investigeted. The stability of pulsating turbulent flows at transitional Reynolds numbers is studied. The results of our computations agree rather well with experiments.
