Abstract: Within approach of shallow water theory the numerical modeling problem of generation and propagation of surface waves caused by a running bottom rupture is considered. The rupture is a trench which width increases with time. During drainage of liquid into the trench, water waves are generated. Main parameters of the problem, influencing on generated wave features, were revealed.

Keywords: shallow water, drainage mechanism, tsunami generation, TVD scheme.
