Abstract:
Theoretical background and practical experience of using the efficient three-dimensional superelement model for petroleum reservoir simulation are discussed. The presented model provides a hundredfold acceleration of two-phase flow numerical modeling due to the utilization of large-scale computational cells (superelements) number of which is comparable to number of wells in the oilfield. Sufficient accuracy of the numerical solution is gained as a result of considering the problem formulation in terms of averaged pressure and saturation fields and specification of averaged solution using fine nested grids around the wellbores.
