Numerical simulation of aerodynamics of vertical-axis wind turbines

Abstract: A new methodology and the results of parametric studies of vertical-axis wind turbines based on 3D aerodynamic calculations are presented. For a model turbine with three twisted blades we study the dependence of the aerodynamic torque from the wind speed, the speed of rotation and the geometric parameters which determine the turbine design. The estimates of torque pulsations depending on the specified parameters are obtained.
