Abstract: Some regularities of covalent functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with oxygencontaining moieties were investigated. The materials obtained were studied by electron microscopy, thermogravimetry, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. The dependence of the degree of MWCNTs functionalization on the process conditions was studied. The advantages of the gas phase to liquid phase oxidation of MWCNTs were shown. The effects of pristine and functionalized MWCNTs on the properties of composites with polysulfone were investigated. Both pristine and functionalized MWCNTs were modified with polyaniline. The effects of the method and the degree of prefunctionalization of the MWCNTs on the oxidative polymerization of aniline and the properties of the materials obtained were elucidated.

Keywords: multiwalled carbon nanotubes, functionalization, modification, oxidation, composites, polyaniline.
