Nanocrystalline perovskite-like oxides formation in Ln$_{2}$O$_{3}$ – Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ – H$_{2}$O (Ln = La, Gd) systems

Abstract: Nanocrystalline LnFeO$_{3}$ (Ln = La, Gd) ferrites have been prepared by the co-precipitation method followed by heat treatment in air. The formation mechanisms for LaFeO$_{3}$ and GdFeO$_{3}$ in Ln$_{2}$O$_{3}$ – Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ – H$_{2}$O (Ln = La, Gd) systems under the mentioned conditions are investigated. The phase interaction scheme, reflecting ways which lead to the target, synthesis product yield, as well as the common tendency of LaFeO$_{3}$ and GdFeO$_{3}$ formation mechanisms, are constructed. The mean sizes of coherent scattering regions of LaFeO$_{3}$ and GdFeO$_{3}$ were determined to be 30 $\pm$ 3 and 40 $\pm$ 4 nm, respectively.
