Abstract: The problem of increasing the fatigue resistance of the shafts, axes and joints “shaft-hub”, placed in mechanical diagrams and transmission mechanisms of vehicles is considered by the method of plastic deformation of their working surfaces. For the purpose of estimating the combined impact of the affecting factors (geometric parameters, sharp transfers of the contours, residual compressing stresses), a multi-parametric mathematical model of a hardening technology is proposed, and for its practical application, it is replaced by a system of regression parametric equations whick, by the principle of the dominating factor of stress concentration, allows quantitative assessment of the remaining factors jointly acting on the indices of the fatigue resistance of the mentioned machine of those indices.

Keywords: surface plastic deformation (SPD), shaft, axis, joint “shaft-hub”, fatigue resistance, coefficient of stress concentration, fatigue limit.
