Abstract: As the outcome of river flow characteristics’ studies of the Armenian rivers the assessment on the volume of spring floods and the ecological values of those rivers’ flows is realized. For the purpose of assessment of the ecological flow the average values of minimum discharge of ten consecutive days during the winter water shortages in the rivers are used. Study results reveal that the main role in river water level increase in springtime belongs to the formed wintertime snow water sources emerging within the altitude zones of $1700-2500~ m$. On the case study of Arpa River the connections between the turbulence scale expenditures and the ecological flow values have been exposed. The obtained correlation coefficient of this connection is 0.93, which enables the development of an ecological flow assessment methodology particularly for the ecological flow valuation of those rivers, which are nourished by the melting snow.

Keywords: ecological flow, flood, snowmelt intensity, rain duration, underground nourishing.
