Generation of reactive oxygen species by AgInS$_2$/TiO$_2$ nanocomposites under the influence of UV and visible radiation

Abstract: In this work, we synthesized nanocomposites consisting of an AgInS$_2$ core and a nanostructured TiO$_2$ shell. Primary characterization showed that, as a result of synthesis, particles with an average diameter of 12 nm and a TiO$_2$ shell thickness of 4 nm were formed. It demonstrated that the synthesized nanocomposites can efficiently generate superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical under the influence of UV radiation and superoxide anion under the influence of visible radiation. Efficient generation of superoxide anion under the action of visible radiation lying in the TiO$_2$ transparency range indicates efficient photoinduced electron transfer from the core to the shell of nanocomposites, and it makes such systems promising for the treatment of bacterial infections.
