Abstract:
Electrically controlled light refraction in a nematic liquid crystal (LC) with homeoplanar orientation possessing different thicknesses has been investigated at angles of light incidence on the layers exceeding the angle of total internal reflection of an ordinary beam $\delta_{\operatorname{o}}$. The optical response rise and decay time dependences ($\tau_{\operatorname{on}}$ and $\tau_{\operatorname{off}}$, respectively) on the electric field and angle of light incidence $\delta$ on the LC layer are obtained for LC cells with thicknesses $d$ = 7, 14, and 22 $\mu$m.
