Abstract: The dynamic polarizability of a negatively charged hydrogen ion is calculated using a correlation-consistent basis set with high diffuseness. The obtained results are close to the results obtained by the method of summation over pseudostates. It is also shown that the density functional theory calculations do not allow one to achieve highly accurate results because of the large size of negative ions compared to both positive ions and neutral atoms (molecules).

Keywords: negative hydrogen ion, dynamic polarizability, correlation consistent basis set, diffuseness of quantum orbitals.
