Abstract: The results of experimental and theoretical studies of the optical-energy properties of CdS thin films are reported. The synthesis procedure and the results of structural and optical studies of CdS thin films deposited on the surface of a glass substrate are given. Within the framework of the pseudopotential method, the dynamics of changing the parameters of the electronic subsystem of the CdS film is theoretically studied. The direct gap nature of the bandgap of the film and the genesis of the conduction and valence bands are established. Using the Kramers–Kronig relations, absorption and reflection spectra that satisfactorily correlate with the experimental data are obtained.
