Abstract:
The dynamics of heterolasers with finite-length planar Bragg structures is studied. Based on analysis of the dispersion equation describing the eigenwave propagation in the finite-width Bragg structure, the mechanism of mode selection with frequencies above the band gap is physically interpreted. It is shown that the stability increases when using Bragg structures with transverse sizes smaller than the sizes of the active region of distributed-feedback heterolasers. As a result, single-mode oscillation is maintained for a wider range of pump powers, hence, the output radiation power.
