Abstract: We investigate modification of the 9XC tool steel surface by femtosecond laser pulses with a high (1 MHz) repetition rate and peak power. For the $p$-polarized incident radiation, we established rounding of discontinuous linear microstructures that double with increasing angle of misorientation with the polarization vector.
