Controlling aerodynamic forces with the aid of gas-permeable porous materials

Abstract: We have experimentally studied the effect of asymmetric heating of gas-permeable porous inserts situated in front of a cylinder on the aerodynamics of this system in supersonic airflow with a Mach number of $M_\infty$ = 4.85. The inserts were heated by electric glow discharge. It is established that side forces perpendicular to the airflow axis arise and their quantitative characteristics are determined.
