Abstract: Using modern physical materials science methods, the structural-phase states and elemental composition of the transition zone in the “plasma coating (high-speed molybdenum steel) – substrate (medium-carbon steel)” system were investigated. It was found that the transition layer, approximately 100 micrometers thick, contains $\alpha$-phase, $\gamma$-phase, complex carbides ($M_{23}$Ñ$_6$, $M_6$Ñ), as well as MoC and cementite.

Keywords: high-speed molybdenum steel, “plasma coating – substrate” system, contact zone, structure, phase composition.
