Abstract: The mechanical properties of notched samples of St.10 steel under tension at different strain rates were studied. Fracture surfaces of the notched samples after the dynamic bending were investigated, the mechanisms of plastic deformation and fracture were determined, and the fractal dimension of the fracture contours were obtained.

Keywords: mild steel, mechanical properties, dynamic bending, fractal dimension.
