Abstract: Based on an analysis of experimental studies, it is shown that the determining mechanism of the layered fracture of a high-viscosity fluid is the shear instability of its structure and the swelling of the layered flow. The problem of shear flow of a high-viscosity fluid in a cylindrical channel is solved analytically. The results agree with experimental data.

Keywords: high-viscosity fluid, pulsed loading, filamentary structures, dilatancy, ductile fracture.
