Abstract: In the present study, the effect of operating pressure on the flame response is investigated numerically, and the validity of atmospheric tests is examined. The results show that the flame shape significantly varies at atmospheric pressure, and the flame response to imposed pressure fluctuations is changed; therefore, atmospheric test stands are not reliable enough to study the combustion instability.

Keywords: atmospheric test, combustion chamber, flame response, numerical study, swirl, turbo engine.
