Abstract: A formula for the flow resistance factors in a pipe with a sudden expansion of the cross section at Reynolds numbers of 0.2 to 10 is obtained by numerical solution of the complete Navier–Stokes equations for incompressible fluids. The flow resistance factors obtained using the derived formula are compared to those found by numerical solution of the Navier–Stokes equations.

Keywords: cylindrical pipe, sudden expansion, small Reynolds numbers, resistance.
