Abstract: Expressions for the velocity of a plastic shock wave and phase velocity of longitudinal waves in an elastoplastic medium with hardening are obtained in a quasiacoustic approximation. An analytical solution of the problem of shock-pulse attenuation is constructed. A special feature of the amplitude of the attenuating plastic shock wave is that it reaches the amplitude of the elastic precursor in a finite time, whereas in hydrodynamics, the amplitude of a quasiacoustic shock pulse tends to zero asymptotically.

Keywords: elastoplastic medium, isotropic hardening, nonlinear waves, shock wave.
