Abstract: The origination of wave motion on the surface of a thin layer of oil is studied. This layer is considered as an incompressible pseudoplastic fluid, and surface tension is taken into account. It is shown analytically and numerically that these flows may be stable or unstable depending on the value of the Ostwald number. Profiles of the free surface are found for various values of the Ostwald and Weber numbers.
