Abstract: The dynamics of a passive admixture from an instantaneous localized source in the turbulent mixing zone in a pycnocline is modeled numerically. The source is simulated by specifying the initial distribution of the averaged concentration of the admixture in the form of a finite function that takes a constant value inside a circle of small radius. The results of the calculations show the possibility of situations in which the propagation of the passive admixture is determined to a considerable extent by convective flow generated by the turbulent mixing zone.
