Optimization of a system for compensation of phase distortions caused by extended inhomogeneities

An analysis is made of a system for reconstructing a wavefront distorted by an inhomogeneous medium of finite thickness. A model of this medium describing transverse and longitudinal inhomogeneities is proposed. An analytic expression is obtained for the reconstruction coefficient. The position of the plane of optimal focusing is found. Experiments are reported which confirm the calculated results.
