Abstract: An investigation was made of damage to transparent polymer materials accompanying interaction with a series of laser pulses. It was found that damage sets in later at higher pulse repetition frequencies. It was shown that the reason for this is a new effect for polymers, namely thermal self-defocusing of the radiation.
