Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of the 1Σ+g–3Σ–g vibronic laser transition in molecular sulfur formed as a result of secondary reactions in the photodlssociation of COS by λ= 190–255 nm radiation. The population inversion preceding this transition was analyzed. The main experimental results were in agreement with the adopted model of the stimulated emission due to the 1Σ+g–3Σ–g transition in S2. The emission spectrum was located mainly in the range of vibronic bands Δν= (λL ≈1.1 μ). The gain reached ~4×10–3 cm–1. The specific output energy was ~5×10–4 J/cm3.
