Limiting spectral characteristics of a distributed-feedback laser

Analytic expressions are obtained for the natural line width and spectral brightness of the radiation emitted by a laser with a distributed feedback involving periodic spatial variation of the population inversion. These limiting spectral characteristics are considered below, at, and above the stimulated emission threshold and their dependences on the degree of modulation of the laser gain are given.
