Possibility of lowering the acceleration voltage of a laser electron-beam tube

It was found possible to reduce to 20–30 keV the energy of electrons in a longitudinal beam exciting a semiconductor laser with an active medium in the form of a CdS_xSe_1–x platelet. This reduction was achieved without a significant increase in the intensity threshold of the electron beam and without a major reduction in the efficiency of conversion of the excitation energy into light above the threshold.
