Abstract:
The nonlinear fluctuation-dissipation theorem is used in an analysis of spontaneous Raman scattering of light by surface polaritons. The signal representing the light scattered at the exit from a nonlinear medium is several orders of magnitude stronger than the signal scattered at the entry into the medium. In each of these cases the ratio of the reflected to the transmitted signal is of the order of unity if the refractive indices of the media in contact differ considerably at the signal frequency.
