Observation of a photoelectric effect due to interaction of laser radiation with metals and semiconductors

A study was made of the electrical response to light pulses incident on a parallel-plate capacitor formed by a metal plate, an insulator spacer, and a plate made of a semiconductor or a metal. A photoelectric effect of unknown origin was observed in metals and semiconductors. The parameters of this effect were investigated experimentally.
