Internal reflecting surfaces in unstable resonators

An explanation is given of a strong increase in the divergence of laser radiation resulting from the presence of surfaces separating different media in an unstable resonator. The reflection from these surfaces forms "converging" waves. An analysis is also made of the role played by the scattering of light due to other factors.
