Abstract: A theoretical and experimental study was made of the generation of resonance radiation by stimulated Raman scattering in gases. Maximum values of the resonance field were found allowing for the reaction of the Stokes radiation on the pump wave and the conditions were formulated under which this could be achieved. Pulse radiation of about 25 kW/cm2 intensity and λ = 2.41 μ elength was generated in hydrogen; this intensity was close to the theoretical limit. The experimentally determined dependences of the efficiency of the resonance field generation on the energy and wavelength of the pump radiation, gas pressure, and intensity of a static electric field were in satisfactory agreement with the calculations.
