Abstract:
Laser mirrors in the form of a combination of a metal grid with small mesh dimensions (less than the wavelength) and a dielectric multilayer are proposed. A strong anisotropy of the mirrors makes it possible to achieve stimulated emission of linearly polarized radiation in lasers with internal mirrors. The losses contributed by the mirrors inside the laser resonator are slight because the grid is "screened" by the multilayer. A method for carrying out design calculations and optimization of the mirrors is outlined and examples of calculations are given.
