Abstract:
An analysis is made of the amplification of radiation in long plasma filaments. The analysis is made using spatially two-dimensional models of the emission dynamics. The general conclusions are illustrated by calculations of the gain due to the 3–2 transition in the C VI ion. It is shown that on the basis of recombination pumping of carbon filaments of ~ 1 μm initial radius, it is possible to develop a far ultraviolet laser exhibiting modest energy parameters and being of some interest for fundamental scientific research.
