Abstract: A Cr:forsterite (Cr4+:Mg2SiO4) ring regenerative amplifier pumped by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser is developed which provides the amplification of 1240-nm femtosecond pulses from a master oscillator up to energy of 450 μJ. The amplified pulses propagating with a pulse repetition rate of 10 Hz were compressed in a compressor (with transmission 75%) down to 70 fs, corresponding to the 4-GW peak power.
