Broadband emission continua in rare gases and in mixtures of rare gases with halides

Abstract: An explanation of the broadband (third) continua in pure rare gases is suggested. Broadband emission from rare gas-halogen mixtures is also discussed.The given transitions are shown to be suitable for application in exciplex lamps.The typical characteristics of such lamps are presented.
