Low-threshold generation of harmonics and hard x radiation in a laser plasma. 1. Single-peak generation

A source of hard x radiation based on a laser plasma has been studied under conditions such that parametric instabilities are driven in the plasma at low intensities of the pump radiation (below 10 GW/cm²). A qualitative interpretation of the observed effects is offered.
